# Emerging Tactics — Source Watchlist
Derived from sourcing used in emerging_tactics_research_base_v2.csv (T01–T44 research pass, 2026-07-08)

## Tier 1 — Subscribe (dedicated political-tech / campaign-industry trade press)
These showed up repeatedly and are the highest signal-to-noise for "new tactic" spotting.
- **NOTUS** (notus.org) — political trade outlet, covers strategist/operative-level tactics
- **Digiday**, media-buying vertical — covers ad-tech/AI adoption in campaigns (digiday.com)
- **TechPolicy.Press** — AI + democracy/elections vertical, has a newsletter
- **Politico** — Playbook + "West Wing Playbook"/tech verticals (politico.com) — several of our lead URLs were Politico; worth the subscription despite fetch issues in this session
- **Axios** — multiple relevant verticals: Axios AM (general), Axios Technology, Axios Local (DC/Philadelphia etc. surfaced local block-party/recall stories)
- **Poynter** (poynter.org) — fact-checking/journalism-integrity angle, catches AI-ad and disinfo stories early
- **CyberScoop** (cyberscoop.com) — security/disinfo trade press, good for deepfake/robocall enforcement stories
- **Pulsar.vote** blog — campaign-tech vendor but publishes genuinely useful "what is X tactic" explainers (ballot chasing, etc.)

## Tier 2 — Academic/research trackers (no "subscribe" button, but save a search or follow the org)
- **arXiv** — set a saved search/RSS on cs.SI (social & information networks) + cs.CY (computers & society) for terms like "political AI," "voter," "election," "persuasion." Four different rows in this pass were sourced to arXiv preprints.
- **Columbia Journalism Review / Tow Center for Digital Journalism** (cjr.org/tow_center) — runs the ongoing "pink slime" local-news census; strongest independent research org we found
- **USC Viterbi / USC Election Integrity Initiative** (viterbischool.usc.edu) — coordinated-network/AI-image research
- **MIT Technology Review** — covers peer-reviewed AI-persuasion studies (Nature/Science) as they land
- **Harvard Ash Center** (ash.harvard.edu) — periodic "state of AI in elections" roundups
- **Brennan Center for Justice** (brennancenter.org) — election-law/AI-regulation tracking

## Tier 3 — Vendor & practitioner blogs (interested sources — good for "what's being sold," not evidence)
Worth following for adoption signal, but flag everything from these as vendor-interested per our rubric:
- Resonate newsroom (resonate.com/newsroom)
- i360 (i-360.com)
- Campaign Nucleus blog (campaignnucleus.com/blog)
- Relentless resources (relentless.vote/resources)
- Turning Point Action (tpaction.com)
- NGP VAN blog (ngpvan.com/blog)
- CampaignNow.com blog

## Tier 4 — General news (don't subscribe wholesale; keyword-watch instead)
CNN, NBC News, Washington Post, NPR, Reuters, AP, CNBC, Forbes, TIME, The Hill, Deadline, Wired, Futurism, Variety, Gothamist/local outlets, StartTribune/Minnesota Reformer, CalMatters, Jacobin, Newsweek, Fox News, PBS NewsHour, Zeteo, Adage.
→ Better approach: a Google Alerts / RSS keyword monitor (e.g. via a service like Feedly or a custom script) for terms like "AI campaign ad," "deepfake candidate," "relational organizing," "creator credential," "pink slime news," "ballot chasing," "microtargeting."

## Notes
- I did not verify individual RSS feed URLs or newsletter signup mechanics for each outlet in this pass — this list names the outlets/verticals worth chasing, not confirmed feed links. Recommend a quick pass to grab actual RSS URLs / newsletter signup pages before wiring this into a reader.
- Several major outlets (Wired, TeenVogue, NYMag, The Guardian, Politico direct-fetch, WaPo direct-fetch) blocked automated fetching during this research pass but were still usable via search — worth checking whether your monitoring tool has better access than the WebFetch tool did.
